Reduces cortisol and stress response
Improves sleep quality
Enhances physical performance
Supports thyroid function

How It Works

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) contains withanolides that modulate the HPA axis, reducing cortisol output. It acts as a GABAergic agent, enhancing GABA receptor activity. It also inhibits acetylcholinesterase, supports thyroid hormone conversion, and has anti-inflammatory properties.

300-600 mg standardised extract daily

Best Time to Take

Evening for sleep benefits, or morning for stress management

KSM-66 or Sensoril standardised extracts

Generally well-tolerated. May cause GI discomfort, drowsiness. Rare cases of liver toxicity reported. Cycle 8 weeks on, 2 weeks off.

Drug Interactions

May enhance effects of sedatives and thyroid medications. Avoid with immunosuppressants. May lower blood sugar.

What Does The Research Say?

Multiple RCTs demonstrate significant cortisol reduction (14-28%), improved sleep quality, and enhanced VO2 max. KSM-66 and Sensoril are well-studied extracts. Recent concerns about rare hepatotoxicity warrant monitoring.
