Citrulline

Sports Performance

Key Benefits

Increases nitric oxide production
Enhances blood flow and muscle pumps
Improves exercise performance
Reduces muscle soreness

How It Works

L-Citrulline is converted to arginine in the kidneys more effectively than direct arginine supplementation. Arginine is then converted to nitric oxide (NO) by eNOS, vasodilating blood vessels. This improves blood flow, nutrient delivery, and waste product removal from muscles.

Dosage & Timing

Recommended Dosage

6-8 g L-citrulline or 8-10 g citrulline malate daily

Best Time to Take

30-60 minutes pre-workout

Recommended Form

L-Citrulline (pure) or Citrulline Malate 2:1

Side Effects

Very well-tolerated. Rare GI discomfort. May lower blood pressure.

Drug Interactions

May enhance effects of blood pressure medications, PDE5 inhibitors, and nitrates. Caution with low blood pressure.

What Does The Research Say?

Research shows improved exercise performance, reduced soreness, and enhanced blood flow. Superior to arginine supplementation for raising arginine levels (paradoxically). Citrulline malate adds malic acid for additional Krebs cycle support.
