CoQ10

Mitochondrial Support

Key Benefits

Mitochondrial energy production
Powerful lipid-soluble antioxidant
Heart health support
Statin side effect mitigation

How It Works

Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone/ubiquinol) is essential in the electron transport chain, shuttling electrons between Complex I/II and Complex III for ATP production. It's also a potent lipid-soluble antioxidant protecting cell membranes. Production declines significantly with age.

Dosage & Timing

Recommended Dosage

100-300 mg ubiquinol daily (or 200-600 mg ubiquinone)

Best Time to Take

With a fat-containing meal for absorption

Recommended Form

Ubiquinol (reduced form) for over-40s, ubiquinone for younger

Side Effects

Very well-tolerated. Rare insomnia, GI upset, or headaches. May lower blood sugar slightly.

Drug Interactions

ESSENTIAL for anyone on statins (which deplete CoQ10). May reduce warfarin effectiveness. May enhance blood pressure medication effects.

What Does The Research Say?

Strong evidence for heart failure, statin-induced myopathy, and migraine prevention. The Q-SYMBIO trial showed 43% reduction in cardiovascular death with CoQ10 supplementation in heart failure patients.
