Glutathione
Amino AcidsKey Benefits
How It Works
Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide (glutamate-cysteine-glycine) that neutralises reactive oxygen species, regenerates vitamins C and E, and is essential for phase II liver detoxification conjugation reactions. It's critical for immune cell proliferation and function.
Dosage & Timing
Recommended Dosage
500-1,000 mg liposomal or reduced glutathione daily
Best Time to Take
On empty stomach, morning preferred
Recommended Form
Liposomal glutathione or Setria reduced form
Side Effects
Generally safe. Oral bioavailability is debated; liposomal forms address this. Rare GI discomfort.
Drug Interactions
May reduce effectiveness of chemotherapy drugs that work through oxidative stress. Discuss with oncologist.
What Does The Research Say?
Direct oral glutathione was previously thought ineffective, but liposomal delivery has changed this. Setria glutathione showed increased blood levels in human trials. IV glutathione well-established in clinical use. NAC remains the most cost-effective way to boost levels.
