Tyrosine

Amino Acids

Key Benefits

Dopamine and norepinephrine precursor
Cognitive performance under stress
Focus and motivation support
Thyroid hormone building block

How It Works

L-Tyrosine is the precursor to dopamine (motivation/reward), norepinephrine (alertness/focus), and epinephrine (fight/flight). It also produces thyroid hormones and melanin. Under stress or sleep deprivation, tyrosine stores deplete rapidly, making supplementation most effective in demanding situations.

500-2,000 mg daily

Best Time to Take

Morning on empty stomach, or 30-60 minutes before demanding tasks

Recommended Form

L-Tyrosine (free form, NOT NALT)

Side Effects

Generally safe. Rare headaches, GI discomfort. May worsen hyperthyroidism or anxiety in sensitive individuals.

Drug Interactions

May interact with MAOIs, thyroid medications, and levodopa. Avoid with melanoma.

What Does The Research Say?

Research shows significant cognitive benefits under stress, sleep deprivation, and cold exposure (military studies). Most effective when catecholamine-depleted. Less effective in rested, non-stressed individuals. N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine (NALT) has lower conversion.
